Hi, my name is Jorge Pacheco, with Kulture Konnect branding and digital marketing, and today, we’re going to give you an update with what’s going on with ADA compliance in terms of websites.

2018 was a bit of a crazy year when it comes to compliance lawsuits, there were over 2K lawsuits, which is a 177% increase from 2017. In 2019 The rate of lawsuits filed in federal courts related to website and app accessibility has now hit a rate of one-an-hour, that’s 8 a day, 40 per week and set to be on pace for over 2,000 lawsuits again this year. In 2019, 22% of the cases have been filed in CA, 21% in NY, 12% in FL.

Making your website ADA compliant can be a daunting task, but fortunately for all of us, there is a set of guidelines called WCAG 2.1. So, if you are in the hospitality or restaurant industry, a retailer, educational or an organization that does business with the government, it is something you need to be aware of… For other businesses, if you consider yourself a business that needs to provide public accommodation, I would also suggest you start looking at these type of things… if you’re a doctor, a dentist, nail salon, etc.

There will be more lawsuits this year, that is the forecast… so, your job is to take action and be prepared on the safe side, for your business sake, but most importantly, you will be reaching and making an impact on a whole new market that, globally, is estimated to be worth $6billion. So, more than covering your back, you will be expanding the growth opportunities for your business as well.
